What kind of game is “The Lyon Affair”?
A co-operative detective game in which you investigate an art theft at Musée Saint-Clair in Lyon. You analyse physical and digital clues, listen to audio evidence, examine additional case material and develop your own theory of what happened.
How many people can play?
The game is designed for 1 to 6 players. You can investigate as a team, as a pair or completely solo.
How long does a game take?
Allow around 2.5 to 3.5 hours. The exact duration depends on how deeply you investigate and how much time you spend discussing your theories.
Do we need a game master or any preparation?
No. Nobody needs to know the solution or prepare the case in advance. Everyone can start investigating from the very first minute.
Is “The Lyon Affair” a murder mystery dinner?
No. There are no fixed roles, no scripted dialogue and no culprit among the players. You are the investigators, working together to solve a case that has already taken place.
Do we need internet access or an app?
For part of the investigation, you will need internet access on a smartphone, tablet or laptop. No app is required; all digital content runs directly in your browser.
What will we find online?
You will work with the Musée Saint-Clair website and an insurance investigation portal. There you will uncover additional information and digital evidence, including CCTV footage and audio clues. You will also submit your answers through the portal.
What is the secret Round 2?
Without giving anything away: at a certain point in the investigation, you will be instructed to open a sealed envelope. Inside is new information that begins the second phase of the case.
Do we need any prior knowledge of art or the Joseon Dynasty?
No. Everything you need to solve the case will emerge during the investigation.
